Pack a tank top for your first layer, as well as a few short-sleeve shirts, a long-sleeve shirt, and a sweater if you’re going in early spring, around March, and even into April.

Spring in Venice is still fairly cool, so long pants are the best option. I recommend a pair of more casual pants, like jeans or joggers, and a pair of nicer pants you can easily dress up for a fancy evening out in one of Venice’s best restaurants (there are too many to count).
You can also pack a skirt or a dress if that’s your style, but you’ll definitely want a pair of fleece-lined tights in case it is super chilly or rainy.

Remember that layering is your best bet in the spring in Venice, and anywhere during the colder months, for that matter. For Venice specifically, I recommend a lined rain jacket that will keep you dry AND warm. This way you won’t need to pack two different jackets and worry that you brought along the wrong one.
A cardigan is also very useful as a lighter outer layer if the sun comes out, or you can layer it over your shirt and under your lined rain jacket. And remember fleece-lined tights if you plan on bringing a skirt or dress!

There’s a lot of walking to do in Venice as there are no roads, therefore no buses or taxis. There are water taxis, but these generally only take you around the islands and not through them. Venice is also stunning, so you will want to explore as much as you can, so comfortable shoes are necessary.
Pack a pair of tennis shoes or sneakers that have rubber soles and are somewhat water-resistant, if possible. A pair of waterproof ankle boots will be very useful, but they will take up more space in your luggage, so you’ll likely have to wear them on travel days if you opt to bring them.
