What to Wear in Merida, Mexico

Merida is hot pretty much year round. It occasionally dips down below 70°F in winter, but for the most part you can expect temperatures to stay above 80°F here. This makes knowing what to wear in Merida, Mexico, easier!

Because it’s warm year-round, you’ll need the same basics no matter what time of year you visit. Below are my recommendations on what to wear in Merida, Mexico. I’ll include some seasonal essentials as well.

Tank Tops

Tank tops are great for any time of year in Merida. You can wear them alone in the summer, or layer them on cooler days with a cardigan. I always pack a tank top or two when traveling. Remember to add these to your Merida packing list!

Short Sleeve Shirts

Hot weather means short-sleeved shirts. Stay cool but avoid getting sunburned on your shoulders by packing short sleeves. I recommend linen or sweat-wicking, especially if you’re visiting Merida anytime from spring to summer.

Linen Pants or Joggers

Most locals wear pants in Merida, so bringing a pair is a good idea. Avoid overheating and pack a pair of linen pants or joggers. They’re lightweight, super comfortable, and don’t take up nearly as much space as a pair of jeans.

You can also wear dresses in Merida; in fact, they make the perfect outfit in the heat. Pack a dress or two for your Merida adventures or dress up for dinner at one of the nicest restaurants in town.

Shorts

While shorts are a little less common in Merida, I still recommend packing a pair or two. They don’t take up much space, and on really hot days you’ll want to wear them. If you plan on adding any Merida day trips or tours to your visit, shorts can come in handy for them too.

Sandals

Because of the warm weather, you’ll want to have a pair of sandals in your suitcase as well. Remember you’ll be walking a lot so only add your comfiest sandals to your Merida packing list.

Lightweight Jacket

Even in the warmer months, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or cardigan when traveling to Merida. The evenings can get chilly when the sun goes down, and it can double as sun protection for your arms if needed.

Rain Jacket

Summer is the rainiest season in Merida. Stay dry with a compact rain jacket. Fall can also get quite rainy, so bring a rain jacket or compact umbrella if you plan to visit anytime between June through October.
