Here’s what to pack for San Antonio in summer. From clothing essentials to travel necessities, make your trip the best possible and grab your own San Antonio summer packing list for women below.

After living in Texas for several years and visiting San Antonio multiple times, I've learned how to stay as comfortable as possible in the heat but still enjoy exploring. Avoid overpacking, I was chronic over-packer, and pack only what you need with this list!

What to Wear in San Antonio in Summer

Looking for outfit inspiration? Click here to browse San Antonio summer outfits! Or keep reading for the ultimate San Antonio packing list. Here's what to wear in San Antonio in the summer.

  • Dresses

  • Tank Tops

  • Short Sleeve Shirts

  • Linen Pants

  • Shorts

  • Sandals

  • Walking Shoes

  • Light Cardigan

  • Undergarments

Dresses

One of the best summer outfit ideas is a dress. They’re cute, come in so many colors and styles, and are generally really comfortable. I recommend packing a dress or two for San Antonio so you can wear them during the day or dress up for a fun night out on the riverwalk.

If you’re going to wear a dress, I recommend packing a pair of bike shorts to wear underneath. They’re comfy and can take away the worry of your dress flying up. Plus, they double as another outfit option; wear bike shorts with a tank top and sneakers for a summer outfit.

Tank Tops

San Antonio in the summer is hot. You’ll want to wear clothes to keep you as cool as possible, so packing a couple of tank tops is a good idea.

Just remember to put on sunscreen if you wear tank tops to protect your shoulders from the blazing Texas sun. If you’re looking for inspo, check out two of my favorite tanks below for two different looks.

Short Sleeve Shirts

Pack a couple of short sleeve shirts or blouses as well for San Antonio in the summer. It’s nice to have a couple of different shirts when traveling so you can mix and match your outfits and dress for the weather.

Here are some of my favorite short sleeve shirts for traveling.

Linen Pants

If you prefer wearing pants, you can definitely pack jeans or dress pants, but if you want a cooler option, pack a pair of linen pants. They’re cute, comfortable, come in many colors, and are much cooler than other material pants.

Shorts

I recommend packing a pair or two of shorts as well for San Antonio in the summer. You can go for denim shorts or athletic shorts, but the shorts below are my recommendation.

Sandals

A pair of comfortable sandals are a good idea to bring too. You can wear them to dress up for a fun evening out at one of San Antonio’s best restaurants or out for a day of exploring.

If you plan to wear sandals all day, make sure you know that they’re comfortable and won’t give you blisters. Below are my go-to sandals.

Walking Shoes

Chances are you’ll do lots of walking while visiting San Antonio in the summer. Stroll along the riverwalk or through the botanical gardens or wander through the zoo or the iconic Pearl Brewery.

A really comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential for your San Antonio trip. I recommend Allbirds for tennis shoes and slip ons, and below are a couple more highly recommended shoes.

Light Cardigan

Even though San Antonio gets very hot in the summer, packing a cardigan or light jacket is a good idea for any trip. You never know if a restaurant will be freezing, or the weather might significantly cool down at night.

A cardigan is also essential if you’re flying to San Antonio. Pack one in your carry-on so you can wear it on your flight if needed.

San Antonio Summer Packing List Tips

When it comes to non-clothes essentials, here’s what to pack for San Antonio in summer. Protect your skin with sunscreen lotion, bring a hat for the sunny days, don’t forget a compact umbrella, and always make sure you stay hydrated.

Remember to leave room for souvenirs when packing for San Antonio. Packing light makes traveling much easier, and thankfully summer clothes tend to be less bulky.

Other Essentials to Pack for San Antonio in Summer

  • Sun Lotion: Face and body sunscreen is a must! The Texas sun is intense, so protect your skin with sun lotion while out in San Antonio.

  • Hat and Sunglasses: As you explore the riverwalk, the Alamo, and other must-see sights in San Antonio, a pair of sunglasses and a hat will make it more enjoyable.

  • Compact Umbrella: You never know when it’s going to rain in San Antonio even in the summer, so bringing a compact umbrella or rain jacket will be helpful.

  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is important on any trip, but San Antonio gets very hot in the summer and you’ll likely sweat. Keep water available with this reusable insulated water bottle.

  • Day Bag: I recommend a small backpack, but a purse or waist pack can also work. A day bag will be handy for those hours spent strolling down the riverwalk or exploring the botanical gardens or San Antonio Zoo.

  • Portable Charger: A portable charger is handy for plane travel and long days out exploring in a new city, just remember to also pack a USB charging cord.

  • Toiletries: Don't forget to pack these! If you need a toiletry bag, this one keeps all your stuff organized.

Now you know what to wear in San Antonio in the summer, you can stay comfortable and look great while exploring this Texas city. The heat is no joke in south Texas, so remember to reapply sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and cool down when you need to.

Want to explore more of Texas? Some of the best cities to visit are Dallas and McKinney, and the best nature spots in Texas are Big Bend National Park and Palo Duro Canyon. Have fun exploring this southern gem!
