Disney World is the quintessential American vacation if you’re looking for a high-energy, fun-filled destination. With four theme parks and two waterparks, Disney World in Orlando, Florida, is a great place for families and couples to escape to.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Orlando area, you might be wondering what to pack for a trip to Disney World. With unpredictable rain, hot summers, and mildly chilly winters, there are some essentials you will need year-round, and depending on the time of year you’re visiting.
With family in Florida, I’ve been able to visit Disney many times, and every time it is so much fun. But I have learned that packing the right things makes a huge difference. Keep reading for the ultimate Disney World packing list, from everyday essentials to winter necessities and summer must-haves.

10 Year-Round Essentials to Bring to Disney World
This Disney World packing list is geared towards adults visiting the parks without young children; however, these essentials are for everyone. After these items, you will find kid-related packing suggestions along with other recommendations to help make your Disney trip as magical as possible.
1. Small Backpack or Sling Bag
Make your life easier by bringing a small backpack or sling bag to carry all your Disney World essentials. Especially if you’re with a group, you’ll likely need a place to store a water bottle, souvenirs, snacks, sunscreen, etc.
Opt for a hiking backpack like my favorite Osprey 18L day pack.
Or go for a fun Disney-themed bag like this Mickey and Minnie Mouse one!
2. Reusable Water Bottle
Drinking plenty of water is a must when visiting Disney World. You’ll be on your feet a lot, and likely in the sun a lot, so staying hydrated will help you feel the best possible so you can stay until the parks close!
An insulated reusable water bottle is best. Plus, you can bring it on any travel or hiking adventure in the future!
3. Sunscreen
A lot of lines, and even some attractions, are outside in the Disney theme parks. Avoid getting sunburned by applying sunscreen and also bringing extra with you.
It’s really easy to get sunstroke at Disney, so lower the risk by drinking plenty of water and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day.
My go-to sunscreen is Sum Bum’s SPF 50 in the travel size and Cetaphil’s SPF Face Moisturizer.
4. Hat & Sunglasses
Along with drinking water and applying sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are essential for any Disney trip. While it can rain any day in Florida, the sun is bright when it does shine. Your eyes and your head will thank you if you wear a hat and sunglasses.
You can just stash them in your day bag when you’re on rides or resting at one of Disney’s best restaurants. A hat also makes for a great souvenir from Disney World. You can find them at most large gift shops in each park.
5. Portable Charger
Taking photos, waiting in the virtual queues, ordering food, etc., can quickly drain your phone battery. If you’re planning on staying out all day, bring a portable charger with you to Disney. Throw it in your backpack and charge your phone on the go.
Those long wait times can be the perfect time to plug it in; get ready to find your way to the next attraction, or use that Lightning Lane pass!
6. Rain Jacket or Rain Poncho
The weather can be unpredictable in Florida, especially during the summer. It’s almost certain you’ll get rained on during your trip to Disney World. Which is why you’ll find most people bring a poncho with them.
A rain jacket will also do, but a plastic rain poncho takes up very little space in your bag and covers more of your body. If you find yourself halfway through a long ride line, you won’t want to give up your spot when it starts raining. Just throw on a poncho!
I recommend these compact rain ponchos, and if you’re in the market for a rain jacket, this one is great!
7. Food / Snacks
- Granola Bars
- Trail Mix
- Chips or Crackers
You are allowed to bring food into Disney World parks, and I suggest you at least bring snacks. Food cannot be in glass containers, and it has to be non-refrigerated.
You can bring sandwiches, wraps, etc. I recommend bringing granola bars, trail mix, and crackers. Food is expensive in the theme parks, and sometimes you need a quick pick-me-up when you’re waiting in line!
I will say, though, you should definitely splurge on some food in Disney. It’s incredible, and don’t forget the amazing desserts at Disney World!
8. Comfortable Shoes
Outfit needs will change depending on the time of year that you visit Disney World (more on this below), but one thing you will definitely want to have is the most comfortable shoes possible.
You’ll be on your feet a lot at Disney World, the parks are spacious and lines can get long. Wearing comfortable walking shoes will make your visit much more enjoyable.
I highly recommend Allbirds sneakers for men and women. They have lots of colors and styles, and they’re machine washable! My pair comes with me every time I travel.
9. Hand Sanitizer or Wet Wipes
This goes for adults too, bring a bottle of hand sanitizer or some wet wipes. Theme parks are busy, and busy means more germs. It’s nice to be able to clean your hands quickly when you’re going to eat, after a ride, etc.
10. Mini First-Aid Kit
This isn’t essential as each park has a first aid station, but you might find yourself on the opposite side of the park from it.
A few bandages, ibuprofen/acetaminophen, etc., can be very helpful to have on hand.
Below are my suggestions for a DIY first aid kit. Or you can buy a premade kit; they come in handy on any trip!
- Bandages
- Pain reliever (ibuprofen, tylenol, etc.)
- Midol
- Pepto and Imodium
- Hydrocortisone
- Antibiotic ointment
- Cough/cold medicine
- All prescription medications
Extra: Disney Themed Clothing
This is not essential, but I recommend buying some Disney-themed goodies before your trip. You’ll already be on theme when you first get to the parks, and it honestly makes it more memorable. It’s Disney World, why not go all out?
Souvenirs are also very pricey in the parks, so I recommend buying themed clothing and extras in advance so you can save money. You’ll bet to buy that really cool sweatshirt or lightsaber in the park this way!
